mantis is a lounge chair that claims its own space. Like a praying mantis in waiting stance, after which the chair is named, it stretches backwards on wide-reaching legs while its curved backrest faces forward. This gesture defines a clear, distinct zone. A retreat that opens and shelters at the same time.
The frame is made of solid German ash. Seat, backrest and their supports are mould-pressed from ash veneer. Three converging legs carry the floating shells and create a tense lightness. The thin, tapering support of the backrest flexes with the body. A living ergonomics, not a rigid geometry.
Materials and finishing are resource-conscious. Regionally sourced ash, water-based stain, clear lacquer. The strong blue tone leaves the wood grain visible and gives the chair a graphic presence that underlines its sculptural intent.
mantis combines high craftsmanship with an independent formal language. Not an incidental piece of seating, but an object that shapes a room. A place to sit, to read, to linger, to feel at ease.
