The W Washington D.C. roots itself in the city of magnificent intentions, standing proudly next door to the White House on the National Mall, within steps from the city’s top landmarks. Breaking all rules of bureaucracy, inaugurating the oldest hotel in town with revolutionary, seamless, yet whimsical design. The design focuses on D.C.’s immediate landscape, an urban playground, where edgy and innovative professionals link. The playful and unexpected design approach makes this W Hotel sincere to today’s nation’s capital.
Conflicting theories make up the many moving parts of W Washington D.C.'s design. The country is split between two parties clamoring for its own agendas and searching for probity in a world full of myths and facts. The idea of myth versus fact, ambition versus reality, is the core of America’s contrasting beliefs: Republicans versus Democrats; the 99% versus the 1%; Right versus Left. Finding form in political expression, political cartoons become the translation of contrasting beliefs delivered as humorous, bold, and strong: the foundations of the American voice.
