“Be Still” is a table collection that represent the pursuit of stillness. Stillness is something that I pursue everyday, but it is also something only a few can ever find.

I started this project by trying to design a table that gives off a sense of calm and stillness to its viewers, but I soon realized that stillness, can only be achieved from within one’s self. So I took this idea and designed “Be Still”.

“Be Still” represents stillness in a very literal way. The main body of the table has the form of a curved vortex, which from the side, looks like it is slowly melting and dripping down. This form, together with a mirrored reflective surface, distorts the environment it is in.

When someone looks at the table while moving around it, the reflected environment on the inner surface of the table swirls and rotates with the viewer. When the person stops moving, the swirling stops, the reflection becomes still, and clarity is found.

The table is toped by a piece of clear glass, which makes the table look like a pool of still water from a distance, and the glass also elevates the objects that are placed on top of the table.
