‘Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art’ - Leonardo da Vinci
The ’Sanctum’ coffee table by Within, is a work of art, a modern confluence of form and function. It is a celebration of profound thought, exquisite materiality and impeccable handicraft. The collection is inspired by the inner sanctuary within us - the basis of all dualities in nature - good and evil, happiness and sorrow and so on, symbolised by the juxtaposition of two stones.

Use of contrasting stones lays emphasis on the opposites, the twoness that is the world. The semiprecious stones against the black marble bring in colour and texture, emphasising the contrast. The stones, intricately cut are inlaid with precision to form the geometric pattern. Each of the 22,600 stone pieces in the ’Sanctum’ coffee table is individually cut on an electric router, and it takes approximately 3840 manhours to complete the stone inlay work. The inlay craft, locally known as ‘Pacchikari’ was introduced by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in India, who brought skilled artisans from Persia to train the local craftsmen.
The ‘Sanctum’ Collection features a coffee table, a side table and a table lamp.
