Upa is a ludic object, created by a merge between an everyday toy and CNC machining processes. As a furniture toy, Upa is a rocking chair for children between 5 and 7 years, which in this case takes as reference a llama (traditional South American animal), with the intention to break the paradigm of traditional rocking horse. Instead it has taken a representative species of the Andean region (South America), which also transcends as an icon of popular culture. This project seeks to generate a transition in the use of CNC technology, which usually applies to the production of furniture, to a different application aimed at developing scale toys, as we have called the rocking horse. Upa is purchased fully assembled, ready to be enjoyed by children.
Upa solves its attractive aesthetics and function by cutting and machining only four pieces carefully developed for assembly. The four parts (trunk, two pairs of legs, body) combine harmoniously assemblies and curvatures achieved by CNC technology. The body element that determines the volume of Upa, presents attractive curvatures achieved from the traditional kerfing technique, specifically calculated to generate the desired curves.
