Finn takes the ancient taboret, reinterprets it and maximizes its utility. His sophisticated construction and weight of just 1.9 kilograms sacrifices none of his superior stability, making Finn a life-long portable companion. He is always poised, ready to serve – as a stool, as a side table or as an everyday assistant. Finn is timeless in shape and optimised for function. When used as a stool, he invites occupants to adopt a healthy posture and promotes peaceful introspection. In the Swiss tradition of artisan furniture, Finn is crafted from native sycamore, a slender material with remarkable elasticity and strength used for centuries in farmers’ milking stools, milk pails and ladles. The furniture is handmade in Appenzellerland, Switzerland, by people with disabilities who explore and apply their abilities in a schedule-free environment. Finn’s native material and meticulous production result in a simplicity that radiates softness and warmth and shows that quality can be found in the small and the authentic.

Bio
Ruth Zwicker-Ebneter is a knitwear designer and has a CAS in Atmospheric Design. She lives with Gallus Zwicker and their two children in Switzerland. Gallus Zwicker is a light and product designer, an associate member of the Federation of Swiss Architects (BSA) and a member of the Swiss Werkbund (SWB). The “Finn” stool is the first item that the two designers, both born in 1968, have designed together and which incorporates both their perspectives. They therefore continue to pursue Gallus Zwicker’s long-term objective – creation of an environment with beautifully shaped, functional objects.
