There is furniture designed for babies, youngsters, grownups, and... the line ends here. There is no furniture adequate for elderly people and their needs. The construction of the Nana armchair is made of wood. It has higher seat than usual sofas and armchairs. The back is adjustable. The armchair has cushions on the seat and on the back which are made like mattresses. That means that they are comfortable but not too soft. Cushions come in two dimensions/hights and several materials and colors. This project was developed for more than two years. It included detailed research of the needs of elderly people, their problems with the furniture as well as their wishes. The most challenging part was to make a design that would meet the needs of elderly people, including their aesthetic criteria. Elderly people usually sit in chairs while reading or watching TV because those are higher than armchairs. Chairs are not comfortable for that purpose. Nobody designs for healthy elderly people, just the sick ones. If healthy, people 65 plus are still active, they go out, hike, they often live alone (mostly women), and they want to have nicely furnished apartments.
