The old Block Z Lounge (235 m2) is aged with low utilization rate. Campus Development Office seeing the potential for revitalisation, engaged School of Design students to re-design the space to enhance its ambiance, flexibility, creating a multi-functional environment where networking, socialising and solitary working can coexist harmoniously.
The final design comprises of 3 distinctive furniture set where sustainable design principle of upcycling the existing furniture is adopted to minimize waste.
-Taan Tau: a low settee and upcycled high table top combination that redefine the concept of co-working space by offering both options for group activities and solitude relaxation
-Circo: a high backing sofa with good acoustic performance at its inner cirle, creating a visually unobstructed meeting area that combines comfort and productivity
-Double Deng: a flexible chair leg and seat adaptor system that upcycles existing chair shells and frames allowing various seating heights
Together with other interior design features- noticeboards, area rug and mood lighting, they successfully transformed the Lounge to promote an environment where students can relax, work and share ideas.
