Our studio has an obsession with the Parsons table; we believe it to be both the most simplified and iconic table in the world, yet, at the same time, there are infinite configurations the table can take via materiality, scale, and joinery. The Parsons table can be simple and humble, or it can become a powerful design statement in and of itself. For our studio, there is no end to our obsession with this table, and its powerful ability to function perfectly programmatically, yet have endless deployments in its stylistic deployment. We are constantly discovering new designs for this table while honoring the established rules of a square or rectangular table whose legs in the section are equal to the thickness of the tabletop.

The Thin Red Line table was part of a larger project that incorporated elements from the movie The Shining by Stanley Kubrick. Red is a predominant color throughout the film, so the table demanded the red color be incorporated into the overall furniture motif. Choosing to be subtle we did this by incorporating a slight reveal, below the top surface of the deep mahogany’s dramatic tone, allowing the thin red line to emerge as the connective motif.
