Costa Rica is in the midst of an exciting cultural shift, as an increasing number of expatriates settle in traditionally rural areas, blending their influences with the country’s traditions. This console is a reflection of that evolution. Designed for clients who themselves embody this cultural fusion—coming from both Native American and European backgrounds—it serves as a tribute to their admiration for Costa Rica’s rich craftsmanship. Rooted in the renowned woodworking traditions of Sarchí, the piece reinvents classic artisanal techniques with a bold, contemporary edge.
The legs, made in Costa Rica Sarchí's signature curved detailing, are reimagined with vibrant color, breathing new life into time-honored forms while allowing the natural wood grain to remain visible, preserving its organic essence. In contrast, the hyper-detailed front is a sleek, modern statement, embodying the ever-evolving cultural landscape of the country. This juxtaposition between past and present, between tradition and innovation, speaks to the greater transformation —crafted not just for function, but for meaning.
Two almost identical tables were crafted. Only variation is on the legs.
