This chair explores the relationship between mass and tension through its construction and form. The base is crafted from solid wood, with precise slits cut to allow the seat and backrest to be seamlessly inserted. The seat and back are made from pressed bendy plywood finished with a walnut veneer, contrasting the solidity of the structure with a lighter, more fluid surface. The concept behind the design is the idea of a heavy, grounded form being pierced by something thin, generating tension and resulting in curves. This dialogue between solidity and delicacy informs both the structural logic and the visual language of the piece. The chair was fully handcrafted by myself under the guidance of my professor, reflecting both technical skill and conceptual exploration.
