Love Chair: A Tribute to Craftsmanship
Love Chair is a design project created as a tribute to craftsmanship, particularly inspired by the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement—a heritage increasingly overshadowed by technological automation in contemporary design. In response, this project seeks to reaffirm respect for the hands, time, and dedication of artisans, where making is not merely a process but an act of devotion that responds both culturally and ergonomically to human need.
The chair expresses love and respect through the universal symbol of the heart, reinterpreted and softened to harmonize with the human body. This heart motif commands the overall silhouette, defines the seat and backrest geometries, and extends to subtle details in the leg terminals—inviting discovery and emotional connection. Crafted entirely from wood, Love Chair showcases the capabilities of skilled craftsmen, allowing their expertise to become visible through form and detail. It stands as both a functional object and a quiet narrative—furniture as cultural preservation, and comfort as craft's ultimate validation.
Bio Chaiwat has been a graphic and furniture designer before becoming an instructor at a university in Thailand. In his furniture design, he focuses on the no-tools-required concept, and for graphic design, most of the work was the packaging. In addition to teaching design at the university, he also helps communities improve their lives through graphic and product design.
