Svane is a project created with the intention of being the designer’s signature, while also examining production techniques.

The project explores how elegant curves can be implemented in something as simple as a stool — even a stool can be a refined product. The curves and surfaces are minimal yet purposeful, giving Svane a distinct visual expression. Inspiration is drawn from nature through its wave-like curvature and swan-like silhouette, from which the name originates.

With its thin profile, Svane uses laminated birch wood to achieve a strong construction. Unlike most designs, the stool utilizes the weaker side of the wood to build height, introducing flexibility. Though, through lamination, the structure remains strong enough to support the weight of a person. The top part, resembling the figure seven, has a sharp curve that challenges the limits of plywood. Consisting mainly of two parts, the design also allows for simplified production.

When in use, the stool bends slightly, allowing a gentle rocking movement while seated. This creates an association with nature — similar to sitting on a tree branch — and stands in contrast to otherwise static stools.
