Strop Chair was inspired by early campaign-style knockdown chairs and carries many of the same practical qualities. Portability was the central intention behind my design. I wanted a chair I could take with me as I move through different places in life. The upright, slightly awkward geometry of the Klint Safari Chair influenced my approach, and I reflected that character in the proportions and stance of my own piece. I kept all the joinery exposed, allowing the structure to become part of the visual language rather than something hidden. The leather armrest wraps over the front leg to create a soft, comfortable touch point that will develop a patina with use. That same wrapping and weaving language continues through the lower belts as they pass around the front and back legs. Overall, the Strop Chair meets the functional goals of portability and simplicity while expressing the aesthetic values I wanted to achieve.
