Campus Development Office formed a collaboration with School of Design final year students to give new life to the aged Lounge at Block Z to enhance the Lounge’s ambiance and flexibility, creating a multi-functional environment where networking, socialising and solitary working can coexist harmoniously. Sustainable design principle of upcycling the existing furniture is to be adopted to minimize waste.
In response to the brief, “Taan Tau” redefines the concept of co-working spaces by offering both options for event activities and relaxation usage at the same time. This versatility greatly improves the spatial utilization of the Lounge.
Recognising the scarcity of private space in public settings, Taan Tau ingeniously addresses this challenge by introducing a low settee on each end with sunshade and side panel provides comfort and acoustic shelter from the bustling atmosphere. In contrary, behind the shelter of the low settee is the upcycled table top that creates convenient space for users to stand or sit, encouraging a dynamic and engaging environment. At the top of Taan Tau’s frame are reflective colour mirror strips which create mood lighting effect for the Lounge Space.
