This design transforms an antique desk into a modern, futuristic vanity, embodying a regenerative approach that values heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics. The project began with digitalizing the existing furniture to develop a solution that integrates seamlessly into the client’s modern space. Inspired by the fusion of past and future, as seen in Gattaca, the design maintains the essence of the original piece while reinterpreting it with a minimalist and refined composition. The ornate legs were removed to introduce a floating effect, achieved through a high-back panel that frames the piece like a museum exhibit. Two travel trunk-inspired drawers were added to honor the client’s passion for vintage luggage. High-quality finishes, including a white lacquered structure, stainless steel handles, and a marble top, elevate the design’s elegance. This project overcomes traditional constraints of furniture reuse by blending digital modeling, craftsmanship, and a forward-thinking aesthetic.
Bio Fabrizio Constanza is a Guatemalan artist and designer whose work bridges functional furniture, sculptural form, and cultural narrative. His designs integrate masterful artisanal production with conceptual rigor, creating pieces that are both functional and expressive. Exhibited internationally and documented in key publications, Constanza’s work enriches public spaces, inspires emerging designers, and elevates Guatemalan design on the global stage, demonstrating the artistic potential of furniture as cultural expression.
