Concept: Inspired by the flexibility of wood veneers used on another project, the client requested a built in furniture unit that was completely continuous and interconnected. In that, the concept for a “ribbon” was found. Programmatic requirements included a desk, stand for a turntable, shelves for vinyl records, art/book shelving and a seating area inside the "shipping container niche”. Ribbon Desk is a bespoke piece of furniture that winds and flows through the space that is both functional and expressive of the client's “yes - we can make that happen” approach to business.

Technical: Ribbon Desk is fabricated from laminated wood veneers with cherry wood as the finish and maple as the core. Wall mounts are concealed dowels and clear plexiglass wall mount brackets were fabricated to support the bench seating area. The fabrication process required a significant amount of R and D. The piece was formed sectionally in the shop and field spliced for the final installation.
