Swing Like No Other originated from a desire for contemporary outdoor furniture designed for relaxation. It was initially created for an architectural project known as The Shed situated on the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada. Swing Like No Other is crafted to allow users to enjoy the most beautiful views of the Canadian Maritimes while swinging.
To enhance the sense of lightness, the design process involved exploring the themes of balance and weight to achieve an ultimate feeling of freedom while swinging.
The choice of steel as a material allows for the creation of the thinnest lines while ensuring maximum strength. The design is, in fact, a playful exploration of triangular geometry. The main triangle shape is sturdier and serves as the main support while the secondary triangle, a thinner line, supports the bench. Both triangular structures drape over a central pole, like a strap, creating the illusion that the pole is suspended in mid-air. The swing’s minimalist expression appears as a thin line drawing in the landscape.
The result is a swing that, both aesthetically and experientially, brings delight, nostalgia, and an overall sense of letting go: A Swing Like No Other.
Bio hART design, architecture/object/urban, researches many disciplines through a creative approach and rigorous functionality. Our methodology can be summarized as multidisciplinary design, with a strong emphasis on meticulous technical details.
We believe that all disciplines can positively impact a project within an integrated design process. By collaborating directly with artisans who specialize in various materials, we aim to learn how to effectively combine various techniques to achieve our final design.
