The 2500m Lounge Chair is crafted from a single continuous 2.5km rope using the Multiweave technique, transforming a simple material–a rope–into a complex structure. The warps are arranged in vertical rows, stretching from the bottom to the top. The weave draws patterns in between the warp grid to create three-dimensionality by building layers upon layers. When the weave is finished, the warps are interlaced and finished off with a single knot, tying the beginning and end of the 2500 meter long rope. If untied, the chair unravels, making the material fully reusable. The vivid orange 12mm shoelace in this structure generates new kinds of textile patterns. This mono material piece shows a new way of producing upholstered furniture, where only one person, one material and one technique is needed to make a complete piece of furniture. The result is the first three-dimensionally woven chair, offering a seat that feels like sinking into wet snow, gradually adapting to your body and creating a personalized seat shaped by you. Initially geometric and austere, the chair deforms as it interacts with the seated human body, transforming into a softened, sculptural shape molded by touch.

Bio
I am a furniture and product designer, a graduate of Beckmans College of Design, and the founder of my own practice. With experience at Vaarnii, I have deepened my understanding of material-driven design.

Growing up in the archipelago, I learned to work creatively with simple materials for many different challenges—a mindset that shapes my approach today. I explore the potential of a single material to create mono-material objects. I am interested in rethinking user interaction and our relationship with everyday objects.
