Flip is a children’s chair that can be flipped and used in two different ways. I worked from the idea that the next sitting position is the best one, aiming to create a piece of furniture that could be used in multiple ways, allowing the child to sit however they like.

The sides of the chair have a convex shape that allows it to function as a rocking chair. This side features a low seat and high sides, which protect the user from pinching their fingers underneath the chair while also providing a cozy space for the child to crawl into and feel secure. The other side forms a stable chair with a seat at the same height as a standard children’s chair. The backrest of the stable chair also acts as a stopper for the rocking chair, making it more difficult for the user to tip the chair backward while rocking.

Flip is constructed from cut-out panels of birch veneer, allowing it to be flat-packed. The seat is kerf-bent and attached with screws into milled grooves in the side panels. This makes it easy for the user to assemble the chair at home while still achieving the elegant appearance of bent wood.
