Bilro Table
A piece inspired by the Afro-Brazilian universe, the Bilro coffee table innovates by incorporating the shapes and materials of a traditional atabaque, used in rituals of Brazilian religions of African origin, such as Candomblé and Umbanda.
The solid wood assumes a curved shape, directly referring to the shape of the atabaque instrument, creating an organic piece of furniture that generates a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The surface of the table is made of stretched and tensioned leather, just like the traditional musical instrument, which is surprising given the unusual material used as the tabletop.
To structure the top, the coffee table has a natural leather tensioning system, which is stretched by “bilros” (wooden pins), which tension the leather using cotton strings, a system also used to tune the traditional musical instrument.
This piece of furniture has an innovative design that acquires universal status by redefining traditional shapes and materials, paying tribute to the African influence on Brazilian culture.
