Chi is a stool inspired by the traditional Korean practice of making kimchi, designed to enhance safety and comfort while capturing cultural integrity. The stool addresses the challenges posed by the "Kimchi squat" position, which often causes strain on the lower back and increases the risk of discomfort during prolonged use. By raising the user's h-point, Chi replicates the traditional squatting posture but in a safer, more ergonomic way.

The design of Chi takes inspiration from the Korean letter "chi" in the word "Kimchi," positioning the user as if they are becoming the dash on top of the letter when seated. Chi’s unique curves are influenced by the shape of the Onggi, the traditional Korean fermentation pot used for kimchi storage. The carefully considered form combines functionality with cultural homage.

Crafted from six thin sheets of Baltic Birch, Chi is carefully molded using lamination, resulting in seamless, organic curves that invite users to feel and think. Its thoughtful design also serves to honor the tradition of kimchi-making, creating a functional yet beautifully crafted object that preserves an essential part of Korean heritage.
