Glider Chair evokes images of a glider plane’s aerodynamic lightness and memories of childish delight in folding a paper plane. Inspired by Origami, the basic elements are created solely through folding and bending. The aim has been to achieve a harmonious and intuitive expression, despite the chair’s complexity. A warm, organic seat-fold with a streamlined T-curve contrasts with the cold, geometric armrests. The broad, facetted flat metal frame creates a dynamic experience, appearing almost invisible one moment, only to be imposing in the next. The chrome-plated tubular cantilever base with its curved bends creates visual balance, while offering a gentle, natural bounce. Its blend of geometric and organic shapes suits a wide range of interiors, adding warmth to modern spaces and a modern touch to traditional ones. The wide armrest evokes the presence of an upholstered armchair, while merino wool ensures comfort, is naturally self-cleaning, and provides sound absorption. Made from 9mm wool felt, the Glider Chair features a seat cover that users can easily replace themselves, potentially with a rug, clearly revealing the project’s origin in a single, consistently folded surface.

Bio
PlanAbacus is a Danish private limited company (ApS) founded by Lars Angaard Madsen in 2025 to create conceptual and experimental furniture rooted in an art driven, interdisciplinary practice. Glider Chair was presented at Superdesign Show 2025 during Milano Design Week, and will be exhibited again at Other Circle (The Lab, June 10–13) during Copenhagen Design Week 2026. The chair is not yet in production, but can be made to order, with small-batch manufacturing planned.
