…and what about the mirror?
Well, the separation of form and function through minimal, precise interventions in the formal structure—indeed,
in the very essence of an everyday object—is at the core of my artistic method.
In other works and sculptural projects, I have completely redefined sheet metal, ladders, and trash cans through refinement or a simple coat of paint, transforming them into a new aesthetic and thus liberating them from their functional everydayness.
For the viewer, this leads to a realization, because he or she, perhaps
for the first time, views an object free from its pure function and sees it for
what it is:
an object of its own nature and in its own right—with a sublime, a “liberated”
aesthetic, a mirror that is no longer merely subordinate to pure purpose.
