The middle seat on a couch is often the least comfortable spot in the room.

Without an armrest, nearby surface, or place to rest your feet, people compensate by balancing objects on their lap, leaning forward to reach a coffee table, or holding subtle tension while trying to relax.

Melo was designed in response to this everyday behavior. Rather than assuming ideal posture, its form supports how people actually lounge. A curved wooden surface brings drinks, books, or devices within natural arm’s reach, while the upholstered cushion provides a comfortable lounging footrest.

The wooden base also serves as a secondary foot support, positioned at an ergonomic height that encourages better posture and supports the spine’s natural curve.

Crafted from solid sapele wood and paired with Brodex Pearl upholstery, the design balances structural clarity with tactile warmth. Inspired by Scandinavian hygge, Melo focuses on simplicity, comfort, and improving everyday living. By supporting both reach and foot placement, it transforms the overlooked middle seat into a more comfortable and supportive place to sit.
