Merletto is a mobile roll container with an additional height adjustable tabletop designed to support flexible and situational ways of working. Instead of fixing the workplace to a single desk, it allows users to move freely within a space and temporarily establish work areas wherever they are needed. The container functions as storage, side table and compact mobile workstation.
The project addresses contemporary work environments where locations constantly shift from flexible office spaces to informal situations such as working on a sofa or outside on a balcony. Its mobility encourages users to consciously decide where to work and how much energy they actually need. With laptop batteries, a permanent power connection is no longer essential at all times. Users can choose between the comfort of a fixed power source or the freedom of working elsewhere. In this sense, Merletto reflects an idea of energy sufficiency where mobility and conscious use replace permanent availability.
The name Merletto originates from a production process observed during an internship in an Italian metal workshop.
Bio My name is Jan Meschan, and I hold a bachelor’s degree in industrial design and have focused on furniture design over the past two years. My work centers on shaping living environments and developing realistic, buildable prototypes. During an internship in Italy, I gained hands-on experience in welding and metalworking, which led me to start producing my own furniture.
My goal is to create durable, affordable furniture designed to last, with a strong awareness of environmental responsibility.
