Rigid is a folding chair inspired by the principles of tensegrity, a concept coined by R. Buckminster Fuller, where tension and compression work together to create stability. By applying this structural system, the chair achieves both rigidity and lightness, making it ideal for outdoor use and portability.
Its central flexible joint enables the chair to unfold automatically, ensuring effortless setup. Four side straps provide adjustable tension for optimal stability while also serving as practical carrying handles. The seat is made from durable Cordura fabric, well-suited for outdoor conditions.
Rigid was developed as part of a bachelor thesis project at the Free University of Bozen.
