This armchair combines warmth of natural materials with refined presence that harmonizes effortlessly with contemporary interiors. Inspired by ancient process of rattan chair making, design reinterprets traditional round core - originally used to secure rattan as defining structural and visual element. By intentionally stretching rattan netting to opposite side from its conventional placement, woven pattern is revealed in its most expressive and decorative form, emphasizing craftsmanship and material beauty.
Designed for versatility, the chair functions as both a comfortable seating solution and spatial accent, suitable for hospitality environments. Extensive prototyping and dimensional studies were conducted to achieve universal comfort, enhanced by addition of single cushion that supports relaxed seating.
This project reflects dialogue between tradition and contemporary spatial design. Traditional Japanese furniture techniques were preserved while introducing new design language. Sustainability was considered throughout process by minimizing material use, prioritizing wood as renewable resource, and adhering to ISO quality standards under principles of “use less, reuse, recycle.”
