We reimagined the travel and retail space in the heart of Shinsegae’s Gangnam flagship through a gastronomic experience, curated wine and premium cellar, and a living mezzanine, anchored by a connecting central atrium. Moving past transactional retail, we envisioned an environment that comforts and invites customers to linger. By capturing the essence of a home—familiar, layered, and soft—we designed a retail space where ritual replaces routine. The material palette reinterprets 1950s mid-century glamour and luxury through a contemporary retail lens. Solid timber anchors the space, its warmth offset by brass and high-gloss lacquer planes. Deep jewel-toned upholstery provides tactile counterpoints, while reflective, mirrored surfaces multiply spatial perceptions and create space within space. More than a transitional space, the atrium is reimagined as an inviting social anchor—the core that radiates all light. This was underpinned by the conceptual framework of 'discovery as ritual,' where material contrasts, concealed reveals, and a circadian lighting system that mimic’s time’s rhythm transforms shopping into spatial storytelling.
